SHIP OF FOOLS is a cinematic journey set in 1972. It follows the story of fictional rock photographer Richie Hughes and his time on the road with the drug fueled band "Stranded". Embracing an innovative form of collaboration, the story was created, developed, and co-written by Maggie Fine, Mallory Gracenin, Rotimi Paul, and Natasha Soto-Albors. Directed by Mike McGuirk, working with Director of Photography John Kelley, it incorporates the use of beautiful cinematography with elaborate steadi-cam shots and the use of advanced cameras like the Phantom Miro. With an original soundtrack by Tony Perry and Brendan McGuirk, SHIP OF FOOLS is musically galvanized to create a powerfully entertaining story.

Moonbug News

Hi friends and supporters of Moonbug!

I had some good news yesterday, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston on Monday purchased for their permanent collection my portrait of Gene Cernans foot, the last foot to walk on the moon. It was a long selction process but Im really happy at the outcome.

Further, Nichola Bruce the director of Moonbug, a movie that documents my travels to meet and photograph the astronauts that walked, has posted three short clips from the film on You Tube. I have highlighted them below.

Enjoy!

Best as ever,

Steve

'Apollo Remembered' Exhibition in New Orleans 13 April - 4 May

My show in New Orleans next week featuring work from the Apollo series as well as a screening of Nichola Bruce's 'Moonbug' and a Q + A. Invite shown below and more information underneath that...

APOLLO REMEMBERED at Good Children Gallery, Opening April 13, 2013 6pm
MOONBUG - documentary film Screening as part of Film-O-Rama, Prytania Theater, April 11, 7:30 pm

The New Orleans Photo Alliance is proud to be partnering with Good Children Gallery and The New Orleans Film Society to bring acclaimed Photographer Steve Pyke for two events in April: Apollo Remembered (Pyke’s work about the men that walked on the moon) and Moonbug, a documentary film directed by Nichola Bruce. Moonbug documents Pyke’s travels in search for the trailblazers of one of mankind’s greatest achievements of the 20th century.

Apollo Remembered
Bitten by the ‘Moonbug’, photographer Steve Pyke set out on a journey across America to meet and photograph the Apollo space pioneers. A journey in which he was to meet the adventurers, risk takers and dreamers who were behind one of the most historic endeavors of our time.

From living rooms, and moonscape deserts, to Cape Canaveral, Steve captures these men in frank, revealing portraits, while unravelling their very personal and divergent memories. Apollo Remembered will be opening Saurday, April 13th at 6pm, Good Children Gallery, 4037 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA 70117.

Moonbug
Documented by filmmaker Nichola Bruce with rare archive footage and an original score by Matt Johnson (The The), Moonbug is both a photographic road trip and an exploration of how photographs become signposts for history. Moonbug will screen as part of Film-O-Rama, Thursday April 11th, 7:30 pm at the Prytania Theater. There will be a Q&A with Steve Pyke after screening.

Philosophers book reviewed in Philosophy Now

Hi Friends!

My second volume of Philosophers has just been reviewed in Philosophy Now, i'm including a link below. Hope you're all well.

Very best,

Steve

The review was written by Constantine Sandis of 'Philosophy Now' and can be seen in full here with a select few quotes below;

Jason Stanley
Jason Stanley

"Pyke’s collection proves just how wrong Nozick was to suppose that a picture of a person in a moment of time could not reveal a lifetime’s worth of traits, beliefs, emotions and aspirations."

Referring to text contributed by philosophers;

"It is revealing to compare the content of these with those in the 1993 book, as they collectively reveal a small yet steady change in the philosophical climate. "

"Philosophers could not have hoped for a better portrait artist than Steve Pyke. "

Help to fund the Moonbug exhibition at NASA

Dear friends,

Filmmaker Nichola Bruce and I have started a KickStarter project to fund Moonbug, a film to commemorate the men who first stepped foot on the moon. The project is focused on an upcoming
exhibition at NASA's Johnson Space Centre this November. A screening of Nichola's documentary Moonbug will coincide with my own portraits.

The film has a haunting soundtrack by leading electronic musician Matt Johnson of "The The"- and chronicles my odyssey to capture the pioneering astronauts in an array of outstanding profile portraits. We are hoping to also then do several screenings of the film in NYC and across the country. Please help us support the exhibition through this project. We thank you for all of your support.

Best,

Steve

You can view the video introduction below and head over to the Kickstarter page to find out more and see the available rewards for support.
